J.A. Williams sends top students to Skills Canada Provincials

Eight students from J.A. Williams High School in Lac La Biche will head to Edmonton on May 10 and 11 to test their mettle in the 2017 Provincial Skills Canada Competition. They will compete in solo and team events in a wide variety of categories, including Culinary Arts, Welding, and Video Production.

In addition to the students competing, JAWS has also partnered with Lac La Biche County Family and Community Support Services to send a group of 35 students to witness the competition and visit Skill City, a trade show that routinely attracts over 14,000 students from across Alberta. Skill City encourages visiting students to try their hands at varying trades and skills in order to examine post-secondary and employment opportunities they are interested in. 

The students participating in this year's competition are: 

Amanda King – Intermediate Hairstyling, 1st Place North East Regionals

Travis Koebel – Welding, 1st Place North East Regionals

Bryson Kruk, Evan Stronach – Video Production, 1st Place North East Regionals

Lyric Lewis – Junior Hairstyling, 1st Place North East Regionals

Blake Nashim – Carpentry, 1st Place North East Regionals

Jaylynn Plamondon – Intermediate Hairstyling, 2nd Place North East Regionals

Mary Turnbull – Culinary Arts, 2nd Place North East Regionals
