School Board Elections 2017
Every three years, Albertans have the opportunity to elect trustees to their local school board. The Alberta School Boards Association states that school boards are vital to the growth and education of a community "because of the belief that government – and decisions – made closest to the people being governed are the most effective."
School boards establish policies respecting the provision of educational services and programs, and maintain, repair, furnish and keep in good order all its real and personal property. They also ensure that each student has the opportunity to achieve his/her potential, children are safe at school, the jurisdiction’s financial and capital resources are well managed, and its business is conducted in a legal and ethical manner.
School board elections will be held this year on October 16, with nomination day taking place one month prior, on September 18. If you're considering running as a public school board trustee in Northern Lights Public Schools, be sure to visit the Alberta School Boards Association's Frequently Asked Questions page to make sure you meet all of the eligibility requirements.
